Choosing a Breed

Before you purchase a puppy or dog... do your homework... study the breed and make sure it is the breed you want in your life, household and family. A good place to start is with the AKC at www.akc.org

The Northwest Arkansas Kennel Club offers a free service to assist  individuals who are looking for information about an AKC recognized breed of dog, or are trying to locate responsible breeders of that particular breed of dog.*

Please feel free to contact one of our volunteers who will help locate the information you are seeking. These volunteers have offered to answer your questions. Some of our club members listed below have had experience over the years in a variety of breeds so, although listed under a specific breed, they may not be actively breeding them. They can, however, answer questions about the breed and refer inquiries to responsible breeders.

You need contact only ONE of these volunteers, as they all have the same information. Please be patient if you don't hear back immediately.  Oftentimes, we are just very busy and will get to your inquiry. However, if you don't hear back within a few days, try again. In this age of computers and answering machines, sometimes messages simply DO get lost, and emails don't get delivered!

We hope that your dealings with the breeders you are referred to will be mutually beneficial and that we have provided a service to all. The breeders whose names we give out are expected to be courteous and  helpful. Not all will have puppies for sale, but they should be able to direct you in turn to other responsible breeders. They are under no  obligation the provide their services and do so at their own discretion.

The NWAKC does not recommend, endorse, or guarantee the breeders we refer to, nor does it rate the breeders, their kennels, their breeding stock, or the puppies they sell. Individual kennels and their dogs are not inspected or examined by the NWAKC. It is the responsibility of the inquirer to interview the breeders they are referred to, ask appropriate questions, and evaluate the puppies they wish to purchase.
