Frequently Asked Questions

Classes & training

  • NWAKC does not currently offer any training classes. The Natural State Golden Retriever Club does occasionally offer some classes for conformation handling, rally, and scent work. Please contact NSGRC for more information.

  • There are several training centers located in NWA. You should look for one that covers your area of interest and offers classes for it. Unfortunately NWAKC is currently unable to offer any training classes.

Membership & Getting Involved

  • Information on becoming a member can be found on the Join NWAKC page.

  • Absolutely! You don’t need to be a member to enter events.

Events & Competitions

  • Read more about how Fast CAT events work here.

  • Each event has a premium, which includes all the details for that event. There will be instructions for how to enter and methods of entry accepted detailed in the premium.

  • Mixed breed dogs can compete in any AKC event aside from conformation. You will need a registration number to enter, though. Read more on the different types of registration at the following links.

    AKC Canine Partners
This program is for registering mixed breeds or unregistrable purebred dogs. The benefits are similar to our traditional registration program, and you’ll get plenty of opportunities to connect with other owners of mixed-breed dogs!

    Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL)
If you have a purebred dog not eligible for AKC registration — but you still want to compete in AKC sports and events — a PAL number is for you.

  • As our events are approved by AKC, they can be found using the AKC Event Search, on the list of upcoming events on our home page, or on our calendar.

  • Yes! You can read more about spectators and helpful tips here, from AKC.

  • Every event has a premium list. This is like a guidebook for a dog event. It includes everything you need to know about the event, like:

    • Event Details: When and where the event is happening, and what classes are offered.

    • Judges: Who will be judging the event.

    • Entry Form: The form you fill out to enter.

    • Entry Fees: How much it costs to enter each class.

    • Directions: How to get to the event location.

    • Camping Info: Details about RV camping, if available.

    • Parking: Info about where to park.

You can find premium lists on the AKC website, the show superintendent’s website, or the NWAKC website.

If you have questions about an event, it’s probably in the premium.
